Common RV Problems and Their Causes
- Bouncing – The excessive up and down motion of your RV may be caused by worn down or insufficient shock absorbers or under inflated air bags.
- Dog Tracking – Misaligned rear axles that do not follow or line up with the front wheels can cause what is called dog tracking, named after the way domesticated canines do not run with their hips and shoulders aligned.
- Pulling – Your RV may pull or drag on one side due to overloading on one tire, uneven tire pressure, wear on the springs, hangers, mounts and bushings.
- Rut Tracking – When your RV follows every groove or ridge on the road, you may have insufficient weight in the front of your RV or you may need to look into different tires.
- Shimmying – When the coach shakes back and forth a loose steering component or excessive camber may be to blame.
- Stiffness – Excessive tire pressure, spring rating or poor shock absorption may make every bump in the road feel like a mountain.
- Wind Drift – Occasionally, the cross winds of other vehicles as the pass you may cause your RV to be pushed off its centerline. Usually, a simple steering control product can solve this problem.
