You’ve chosen RV insurance that will have your back should adverse weather damage your RV, but no insurance policy can guarantee that you’ll never have to face such conditions on the road. Two of the most dangerous weather conditions that can affect RVers are tornadoes and lightning. Gilbert RV Insurance wants you to be safe while traveling, and while we can’t insure good weather, we can offer tips for safety.
Tornadoes – Many times when tornadoes strike there is little time between the initial sighting and when damage has been done. Apart from listening to a weather service as you travel, some signs to look for include hail, rotating cloud structures, an unusual green color in the sky, and funnels,
Lightning – While most drivers are told that cars are one of the safest places to be during lightning, an RV is not as safe as a smaller vehicle. If you find yourself in a storm with heavy lightning, avoid touching or using any items that are connected to the chassis, including seat belt anchors and door handles. Avoid stopping near trees and telephone poles as they can do serious damage to an RV should they fall.
Many RVers may never experience these conditions while on the road, but the power of knowledge may be enough to keep you from deciding to venture out on stormy days. Even when driving in rainy conditions, if you cannot see or do not feel comfortable proceeding, turn on your hazard lights, slow down, pull of to the side of the road or to an area that can safely accommodate your larger vehicle while you wait out the poor conditions.
Should your RV, motorhome or trailer be damaged, make sure you’ve chosen an RV Insurance provider that adequately covers such conditions. At Gilbert RV Insurance, insurance for damage done during poor weather is a standard we never scrimp on.
